UI / UX Designer with 6+ years of experience in visual design and user research
Beginning
Since I was a child, I always had to think about how I could improve things around me. I would go to stores and start folding clothes, while my mother would get upset, saying they weren’t paying me to tidy up their store. I would unconsciously spend my time finding ways of saving time on daily tasks, like studying and recording playlists on CDs.
Creative Education
I have studied 10 years on a music school. It helped me expand my creative side while challenging me to manage my very busy schedule. I had normal school classes and volleyball, piano, choir, musical theory, etc.
Later, I went to an Arts High School to learn Sound and work on music and sound production. But, it didn't go as planned.
I completely fell in love with Design.
Design & London
I started seeing things I could improve everywhere. I thought about what I would change in billboards, logos, film credits, and photo editing. Now I could discuss it with my colleagues and teachers and I knew that I really wanted to be a Designer. Here I also learned a lot about photography, drawing techniques, film, ceramics, product design and jewellery.
I moved to London. I entered Middlesex University’s Graphic Design course. This city taught me a lot. Through several art exhibitions, real-life briefs, design talks, UX workshops and just looking around to the billboards and the beautiful design all around the city, I started to build my design identity.
Agency internship
When I finished University, I returned to Lisbon and started working at Lisbon Project as a Junior Graphic Designer. This marketing and design agency taught me a lot about how to manage several projects at the same time with short deadlines and maintain design consistency for several companies. Here I worked for clients like Citroën, Peugeot, Kronos Homes, Amendoeira Golf Resort, Cabriz Wines and EMEL.
Solo designer
Now I'm working as a UI/UX Designer at CoLAB +ATLANTIC. As the only designer, I'm responsible for all our projects' visual communication. As a non-profit company, +ATLANTIC integrates several work packages for European Projects related to the sea (Horizon Europe, Mar 2020).
My role inside these projects ranges from designing websites and branding identities, creating social media posts, editing videos, providing print materials, to more UX research related tasks such as conducting interviews with stakeholders and gathering user requirements.
I’m currently leading the redesign of an SAAS platform where I work closely with developers and have been utilising various UX research methods throughout this process. Diving deeper into UX has made me fall more in love with design by allowing me to research and clearly understand how to optimize each task and empathise with the users. Feeling that my work has a real impact in people is the greatest motivation I can have.
